NCOM CHRISTIAN UNITY e-NEWS October 2008 What a long strange year it has been! In our travels across the country to the large motorcycle events, we have seen attendance dropping significantly. We are certain that the economy along with the high gas prices and the higher airfares has attributed to the decline in travel in general. With many hotel websites feeling the crunch, there have been incentives to keep traveling, such as hotels.com and many others offering gas cards if you book a hotel for 2 nights or more, and other reward programs offering double points for hotel stays. As we are on the road for about 75 days out of the year, we have been able to take advantage of some of those offers. We encourage you to look into some of those deals out there. These motorcycle events are a large mission field and the laborers have been few this year. This was seen especially in Sturgis. Let’s all trust in God’s economy and His love for reaching the lost; we need to be out there more than ever as crisis after crisis hits our nation. We will be in Daytona for Biketoberfest and hope to be speaking to some of the hotels there. Price gouging at these large events has been terrible. Rooms that are offered for $60, go for over $200 a night at almost all the large events. It is time to let them know also, that the party is over for making big bucks off bikers. When you book rooms for motorcycle events, make sure you ask them if they are reducing the rates because of the economy. You may be surprised to get a better rate. We held our third regional Christian Unity event in Atlanta, Georgia in September. This was held in conjunction with Wheels of Grace Magazine’s Unity Ride that was held in 12 locations around the country. We haven’t heard yet about the numbers in all locations, or the amount of money raised for Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program, but it was successful, a lot of fun, and served to unite the many different Christian bikers that attended. We can work together for a common goal! At the Atlanta regional meeting, we shared about the National Coalition of Motorcyclists and the Christian Unity movement and also discussed the goal of developing a Nationwide Christian Unity Council much like a coalition or confederation. This would be made up of active Christian Unity member groups. Some of the groups represented were already NCOM members, though we did sign up a good number of people as well as give them their Christian Unity patches. We have begun contacting Christian motorcycle groups to work on systematically enrolling each of their members to NCOM Christian Unity. We know this is going to be a long process, as some leaders of those ministries don’t have accurate member lists. But we are working on it. This will be much easier than getting individuals signed up all over the country. So if you are in a ministry and want to become a member group, please contact us. You will be listed on the AIM/NCOM site as such and a banner can be linked to your website.
